A Certificate of Program Completion
This program prepares graduates to function as a paramedic in advanced prehospital emergency care. Paramedics work under the direction of a physician through written standing orders, radio and telephone communications. They utilize knowledge and skills to manage medical emergencies of acutely ill or injured clients in prehospital settings. Paramedics are primarily employed by rescue and ambulance service providers. They are also employed in clinics, emergency hospital areas, and other health care facilities.
Admission Requirements
Applications for the certificate program that starts each fall must be submitted by the July 15th deadline.
Basic Requirements
The following criteria are used as a guide for admission:
- Meet the Admission requirements of the University.
- Possess physical and mental health acceptable for performance as evidenced by examination by licensed physician.
Program Requirements
ALL items must be completed by July 15th of each year for Fall studies.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be state certified or nationally registered as an EMT in order to enroll in the Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic Program. Students must provide a copy of a current valid EMT certification.
- Concurrent enrollment in or a grade of C or better in an Anatomy and Physiology elective.
- Must possess an American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card.
- Students will be required to submit their Vaccines/immunization records, CPR certification, and background checks into a verifying account in order to do clinicals.
- Students must meet the University’s minimal requirements through testing out of or successful completion of ENGL 008 and MATH 008 , or equivalent course(s).
- Experience: Prior to enrolling in the EMTP course, students must provide documentation showing ONE of the following:
a. One year of experience with a patient care service that has more than 2,000 calls per year.
b. Two years of experience with a patient care service that has less than 2,000 calls per year.
c. Completion of EMTB 250 - EMS Experience .
- Students must pass Entrance Testing held third Saturday of every July: (Contact EMS Program Director for information)
