A Two-Year Program Leading to a B.S. Degree

Registered nurses who have completed an associate degree or diploma from a program that is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) may apply for admission to the Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and earn a baccalaureate in nursing. The program is designed to provide professional registered nurses the opportunity to achieve advancement in their careers and seek leadership and management roles in the health care setting. The program offers clinical experiences in various healthcare settings, including leadership and community nursing.

The RN to BSN Completion program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Information on accreditation status may be obtained by contacting the ACEN. Program Outcomes

At the completion of the RN-BSN Completion program, the graduate will:

1. Demonstrate critical thinking and intellectual curiosity in order to provide holistic care to a variety of clients.
2. Provide leadership through communication with clients and the interdisciplinary team for the purpose of positively affecting health care outcomes.
3. Demonstrate caring through a holistic approach to client care.
4. Facilitate health care education in varied settings to achieve optimal levels of wellness for the client.
5. Practice within an ethical framework and legal guidelines promoting a positive public image of nursing, and participating in the change process to shape health care policy.
6. Utilize current research to provide client care and pursue lifelong learning to maintain professional growth.

Admission Requirements

All applicants must meet the following basic admission requirements.

1. Meet admission requirements of the University.
2. Complete the appropriate placement test requirements (only required for applicants without math and English credit).
3. Possess physical and mental health acceptable for performance in the occupation as evidenced by examination by a licensed practitioner.
4. Possess an unencumbered Registered Nurse license prior to beginning any nursing course with a clinical component and maintain licensure in state of clinical practicum.
5. Complete 30 credit hours of the ASN Core Courses (see below).
6. Attain a minimum GPA of 2.5 from an accredited associate degree nursing program or diploma program in nursing. A maximum of 34 credit hours of nursing from an accredited associate degree or diploma program will be applied to the RN to BSN Program.
7. Applicants with grades less than C in required general education courses are not eligible for admission. Required general education courses may only be repeated one time in order to raise the grade to a C or better. This includes prerequisites to required courses.
8. Hold no grade of F in any nursing course.
9. Take the NCLEX exam before August 5 prior to the first semester.

Note: Transfer students who are licensed Registered Nurses within six hours of completing the requirements in #5 above, and are in good academic standing, may apply to the RN to BSN Completion Program.

Note: Admission to the University does not ensure admission to the nursing program. The number of students admitted is limited by the availability of instructional resources and clinical learning sites. Each applicant is reviewed individually. Any falsification of application information will result in denial of admission or removal from the program.

Requirements for All Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Students Admitted to the Program

Once students are admitted to the program and prior to the date set by the Nursing Department, students are responsible for completing the following requirements:

1. Provide proof of current CPR certification as mandated by the Nursing Department.
2. Provide proof of immunity as mandated by the Nursing Department and the clinical practicum agency including, but not limited to, flu, varicella, measles, and tuberculosis.
3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B inoculation or refusal thereof.
4. Assume responsibility for personal health care costs; therefore, students are strongly urged to maintain health insurance coverage.
5. Provide other requirements as mandated by the clinical practicum agency including, but not limited to, criminal history and drug screening.
6. Maintain access to a computer with Microsoft Office and the Internet.

Note: A fee for liability insurance will be charged to all nursing students through the University Bursar’s Office.

Standards for Progression and Graduation

1. Nursing students must achieve a minimum grade of C in all required courses and maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 each semester. Failure to meet this requirement will result in withdrawal from the nursing program at the end of the semester. Students may be readmitted to the nursing program one time. If unsuccessful in the second attempt, students cannot be readmitted to this nursing program. 
   a.  If the student earns a grade of D or F in a general education course, the student may repeat the course one time to raise the grade to a C or better.
   b.  If the student is successful in raising the grade to a C or better, the student may apply for re-admission to the program.
   c.  If the student is unsuccessful in raising the grade to a C or better, the student is not eligible for re-admission to the program.
   d.  If the student earns a grade of D in one nursing course, the student may apply for re-admission to the program.
   e.  If the student earns a grade of D in more than one nursing course, the student is not eligible for re-admission to the program. 
   f.  If the student earns a grade of F in a nursing course, the student is not eligible for re-admission to the program.
2. Students must comply with student handbook, clinical facilities, college catalog, and syllabi rules/regulations.
3. Students must complete the nursing curriculum within five years.
4. Students that have a grade of F in any nursing course will not be readmitted to the program.

Readmission Policy

1. The student must submit an application by the deadline set by the Nursing Department.
2. The student may be re-admitted to the program one time only.
3. Re-admission is not guaranteed. 
4. Applications are reviewed by the Nursing Department Admissions Committee. 
5. In accordance with the University Grievance Policy, applicants believing they have extenuating circumstances to this re-admission policy may submit a letter of appeal to the Nursing Department Admissions Committee.
