PMTD 160 - Precision Tooling II
4 hrs (Sem II)
This course builds on the skills learned in PMTD 150, further advancing students’ knowledge of tool & die and injection mold construction while reinforcing safety, theory, terminology, and calculations. Specialty machines present unique hazards, requiring students to demonstrate safe operation procedures. In this course, students will complete the alternate project not covered in PMTD 150. Those who previously built a progressive metal stamping die will now construct a plastic injection mold, set it up in an injection molding machine, and produce plastic parts to blueprint specifications. Those who previously built a plastic injection mold will now construct a progressive metal stamping die, set it up in a punch press, and manufacture metal parts to specification. CNC programming and machining applications will be expanded to enhance precision manufacturing processes. 1 lecture hour, 9 laboratory hours.
Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or better or concurrent enrollment in PMTD 150 .
