PMTD 150 - Precision Tooling I

4 hrs (Sem II)
This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of tool & die and injection mold construction, emphasizing safety, theory, terminology, and calculations. Specialty machines present unique hazards, requiring students to demonstrate safe operation procedures. Depending on section sequencing, students will complete either a progressive metal stamping die or a plastic injection mold. Those in the stamping die section will build a die, set it up in a punch press, and produce piece parts to blueprint specifications. Those in the injection mold section will build a plastic mold, set it up in an injection molding machine, and manufacture plastic parts to specification. Entry-level CNC programming and machining will be introduced to support precision manufacturing processes. 1 lecture hours, 9 laboratory hours.

Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or better in PMTD 122 .
