Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration 6003, B.S.


A Program Leading to a B.S. Degree

This program is designed for Physical Therapist Assistant associate degree graduates who are interested in pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy or Master’s of Athletic Training.

Pre-Admission Requirements

Unless otherwise approved by the department, all applicants should be within six credit hours of being classified as Junior status, have completed all general education requirements for a Physical Therapist Assistant degree from an approved accredited academic institution, and have passed each required course with a C or better.

Admission Requirements

  1. Meet admission requirements of the University.
  2. Possess acceptable health status as defined by internship/clinical sites and the University.
  3. Graduate from an accredited associate degree Physical Therapy Assistant program -or- have completed 27 credit hours of Vincennes University PTAS Courses (PTAS 120 , PTAS 210 PTAS 224 PTAS 225 , & PTAS 230 ). Applicants that are within six hours of completing the PTA Courses, and are in good academic standing, may apply to the Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration.
  4. Applicants must have the following prerequisites completed prior to entering the Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration.
    1. Completion with a grade of C or better in the following courses: 1) MATH 102 ; 2) HIMT 110  (within 7 years of beginning the program); 3) BIOL 111 /111L  & BIOL 112 /112L  (within 7 years of beginning the program).
    2. Prerequisite requirements for CHEM 105  within 5 years of beginning the program (CHEM 103  with lab - 5 hours or have taken high school chemistry).  
  5. The Vincennes University Registrar will determine if credit is to be granted for courses taken at other higher education institutions.

Admission into this baccalaureate degree program requires the prospective student to possess an AS or ASCT degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant institution. Acceptance into this program will be granted through the approval of the Health Care Services Administration Degree Department Chair and the Dean of Health Sciences.

Requirements for Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration (B.S.)

  1. Students will be responsible for any health requirement materials requested by their assigned capstone facilities.
  2. Students must supply their own transportation to the school and internship sites.
  3. Provide proof of Physical Therapist Assistant license prior to enrollment in HCSA 400 

Standards for Progression and Graduation

  1. Students must pass all major program requirements with a grade of C or better.
  2. Possess an unencumbered Physical Therapist Assistant license prior to enrollment in HCSA 400 .
  3. Health Care Services Administration students must achieve a minimum grade of C in all required courses. Students that achieve a grade less than a C in a required course must enroll in the course the next available semester. A required course may only be repeated one time in order to achieve a grade of C or better.  Failure to achieve a grade of C or better or maintain required GPA on the second attempt will result in dismissal from the Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration (B.S.) program.
  4. The Capstone Experience/Internship is evaluated by the faculty supervisor as “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory” based upon criteria established by the program. If an unsatisfactory is received, the student has one more opportunity to repeat the experience with another supervisor. If a second unsatisfactory is received, a failing grade is given for that course.
  5.  Students must complete the Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration (BS) curriculum within five years of beginning HCSA 300 .

Note: Direct Entry requirements for Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master’s of Athletic Training programs at transfer institutions will vary.  Some require students to have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 with a science prerequisite GPA of 3.35. Science prerequisites include: BIOL 105 /105L , BIOL 111 /111L , BIOL 112 /112L , CHEM 105L /105 CHEM 106 /106L , PHYS 215 /215L PHYS 216 /216L , and HSGN 311 . Students who fall below required GPA, even with a grade of C or above, may repeat the required course one time in order to achieve the required GPA.

Appeal Policy

Students that fail to meet Standards for Progression and Graduation have the right to appeal to the Health Care Services Administration Admissions Committee.  Appeals must be in writing and sent to hshp@vinu.edu.  Readmission to the Health Care Services Administration - Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master’s of Athletic Training Concentration (B.S.) program is not guaranteed.
