A Certificate of Graduation

This program prepares graduates to function as a paramedic in advanced prehospital emergency care. Paramedics work under the direction of a physician through written standing orders, radio and telephone communications. They utilize knowledge and skills to manage medical emergencies of acutely ill or injured clients in prehospital settings. Paramedics are primarily employed by rescue and ambulance service providers. They are also employed in clinics, emergency hospital areas, and other health care facilities.

Admission Requirements

Applications for the certificate program that start each fall must be submitted by the April 15 deadline.

Basic Requirements

The following criteria are used as a guide for admission.

  1. Meet the Admission requirements of the University.
  2. Graduation from an accredited high school ranking in upper half of the graduating class.
  3. Possess physical and mental health acceptable for performance as evidence by examination by licensed physician.

Program Requirements

Program applications can be requested through the department or downloaded via the Internet.

ALL items must be completed by April 15th of each year for fall studies.

  1. Admission to Vincennes University
  2. Be 18 years of age or older.
  3. Application packet including:
    1. State or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NR EMT) Certification.
    2. CPR Certification.
    3. Limited Criminal History (LCH), which may be obtained by visiting www.state.in.us/isp. Students are responsible for any fees associated with the LCH. Hospital and ambulance providers will require a more extensive criminal background check in addition to drug screening.
    4. Documentation of freedom from Tuberculosis.
    5. Immunization Records:
      1. MMR
      2. HEP A and  B
      3. TDAP
      4. Varicella
      5. FLU
    6. Evidence of physical fitness to function as a paramedic signed by physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.
    7. Documentation of testing out or successful completion of ENGL 008  and MATH 008 , or higher.
    8. Documentation of:
      1. One year of experience with a patient care service that has more than 2,000 calls per year.
      2. Two years of experience with a patient care service that has less than 2,000 calls per year.
      3. Completion of EMTB 250 - EMS Experience  
    9. Resume with three letters of recommendation.
    10. Admission Essay.
  4. Concurrent enrollment in or a grade of C or better in Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 111 /111L  or BIOL 107 /107L ).

Upon review of application packets, students will be ranked and selected for admission testing and interview to include: 

  1. Computer Adaptive Test
  2. Patient care scenario
  3. Panel Interview
