Education - Secondary Concentration 1350 Grades 9-12, A.S.


Teaching License Coverage: Grades 9-12
A Two-Year Transfer Program Leading to the A.S. Degree

Students selecting this curriculum will be undertaking the first two years of a four-year degree program leading to licensing as a teacher of subject matter in the secondary school. While there is a core of courses required in this curriculum, students must also choose a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours of subject area course work. These subject area courses include (with VU division area) agriculture, earth sciences, biology, mathematics, and physics (Science and Mathematics); art, English, modern foreign language, family and consumer sciences, journalism, economics, history, political science, psychology, and sociology (Humanities/Social Science). Basic Skills Core (9)


Note


The Reading, Writing and Speaking Intensive requirements may be met by EDUC 290 .

The Mathematics Intensive requirement may be met by a subsequent mathematics course or by passing a mathematics assessment examination.

A grade of C or better is required in all Basic Skills courses.

Liberal Education Core (20)


Note


Computer Skills are enhanced by EDUC 200 .

1 To be chosen from the following: PSYC 201 - Developmental Psychology , or PSYC 242 - Educational Psychology . An optional 1-hour laboratory course (EDUC 242L ) is available for students transferring to baccalaureate institutions requiring field experience in addition to the lecture content of Education Psychology.
