EMTB 212 - Emergency Medical Technician


6 hrs (Sem I, II)
This course is designed to prepare students to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). It is guided by the National EMS Education Standards, the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, Indiana Course Requirements, Indiana EMS Non-Rule Policies, and the Indiana Scope of Practice for the EMT. It covers the theories, techniques, and operational aspects of pre-hospital emergency care within the scope of practice and responsibility of the Emergency Medical Technician. Information is presented in a variety of platforms, including traditional lectures, online learning modules, laboratory practice, and clinical rotations. Successful completion of this course meets the requirements to test for the Indiana Psychomotor Exam and National Registry Cognitive Exam. 4 lecture hours, 2 laboratory hours, and a minimum of 24 clinical laboratory hours taken during the semester.

Prerequisite(s): Students should be at least 16 years of age prior to the first day of class. Students under the age of 18 may complete the EMT course and take the certification exams; however, a certification will not be issued until the student turns 18. Students must meet the requirements of the host healthcare provider before participating in clinical rotations.
