APPE 101 - Introduction to Electrical 3 hrs (Sem II) This course is a core curriculum course for students in the electrical trade. Following the NCCER curriculum, learners receive an introduction to the electrical trade, exploring career pathways for electricians, including apprenticeship requirements. The course covers workplace hazards and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize injuries. It also reviews electrical safety standards, including OSHA’s lockout/tagout regulations. Fundamental topics include atomic and electrical theory, electrical units of measurement, and the application of Ohm’s law and the power equation to solve for unknown values. Learners are introduced to electrical schematic diagrams, basic circuits, and methods for calculating electrical energy. Additionally, the course covers resistive circuits, Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws, and circuit analysis techniques. Upon completion of the course, learners have the option to test for a lockout/tagout certification. 3 lecture hours.
