HSGN 202 - Sterile Processing Technology

3 hrs (On Demand)
This course focuses on the study of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician and its roles and responsibilities. The class will provide the student with an introduction to anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, infection prevention, sterilization, decontamination, surgical instrumentation, preparation and packaging of instrumentation, processing of patient care equipment, specialty devices, inventory control, storage, and distribution. Within the content of the course, medical terminology will be identified. The student will be responsible to acquire the 400 working hours needed to be eligible to apply for and complete the certification exam. Additional fees for the exam are the responsibility of the student. 3 class hours.
