LAWE 282 - Indiana Jail Officer Certification

3 hrs (Sem I)
This course is intended for the student to obtain the required “Jail Officer Certification” that is recognized by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board and Academy. The Jail Officer school is a minimum 40-hour, mandatory training for all jail officers from county sheriff’s departments throughout Indiana. This course provides students with the basic information necessary to function as a jail officer within a facility. Areas to be emphasized will be legal considerations from intake to release, jail security, medical considerations, suicide prevention, abnormal behavior in inmates, admissions and booking, stress management, and the Indiana Department of Corrections procedures and relationships to inmates and jails. Students will also have the opportunity to earn additional certifications through instruction.  3 lecture hours.
