Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a federally funded program pursuant to the Adult Education Act. The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities for adults to receive instruction in basic academic skills, practical literacy skills and to complete high school equivalency requirements through the General Education Development (GED) testing program.
Vincennes University Adult Basic Education offers individualized instruction in classes at 24 sites located throughout a fourteen county region of Southwestern Indiana. Students seek basic education in order to pursue advanced educational goals, enhance occupational advancement and/or to increase their employability.
Business and Workforce Assistance Program
The Business and Workforce Assistance Program is a Vincennes University Statewide Services activity designed to provide technical, managerial, and economic development assistance to communities and emerging or existing businesses with the additional responsibility of assisting with their expansion and training needs. The program also provides Workkeys Profiling services to help individuals have access to high quality jobs and employers find qualified and motivated workers.
Off Campus Continuing Education
Vincennes University offers a variety of both credit and non-credit courses which are intended to provide educational opportunities to individuals at select locations within surrounding communities of the Vincennes campus. These courses provide individuals the opportunity to continue their education, improve their present knowledge and skill sets, acquire new skills, and achieve personal enrichment.
Credit Courses. Traditional face-to-face courses, taught by Vincennes University faculty, are offered in response to the special needs and interests of area residents at select off campus locations. Non-credit Courses. Non-credit classes and workshops are offered and/or developed in response to the special needs and interests of area residents at select off campus locations, as well as via the internet. Internet courses are offered through partnerships with Ed 2 Go and Gatlin Education Services. Senior Scholars Program. Indiana residents sixty years of age or older, retired, not employed full-time, and who have a high school diploma or GED may enroll for credit courses with tuition waived on a space available basis. Books, fees, parking permit charges, and other course expenses are the responsibility of the student.

Junior and senior high school students may enroll in courses if permission is granted by their parents and respective principals or guidance counselors. Forms for granting permission are available in the Advisement Center (812-888-4451).
Students wishing to withdraw from the University or drop a credit course should refer to the “Tuition, Fees, and General Expenses ” section of this catalog. No refunds are normally given for non-credit courses after the first class meeting. If a course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, all tuition and fees are refunded.
Project EXCEL
Project EXCEL, Indiana’s first dual credit/concurrent enrollment program, offers transcripted college credit to eligible high school students who enroll in VU courses offered at their local high school or career/technical center. Project EXCEL is accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP), a validation of the academic integrity, the program standards, and the student achievement associated with the program. Workforce Development Services
Workforce Development Services (WDS) administers the Workforce Investment Act programs on behalf of Vincennes University in three of the eleven regions in Indiana. Employment and training services are provided to adults, economically disadvantaged youth, veterans, and dislocated workers needing assistance to obtain employment leading to self-sufficiency. These services may include assessment, case management, training assistance, supportive services, job search activities, and follow-up.
In Region 7, WDS contracts with Western Indiana to deliver services through a network of offices and access sites located in Clay, Parke, Putnman, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo Counties. Individuals seeking further information about WDS in Region 7 should call 812-234-6602.
In Region 8, WDS contracts with the South Central Regional Workforce Board to deliver workforce development services through a network of offices located in Brown, Daviess, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange and Owen Counties. Generations
Generations is the designated Area Agency on Aging serving Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Knox, Martin and Pike counties. The program serves people over the age of 60, individuals with physical disabilities and their caregivers. Services are designed to provide clients with choices that allow them to maintain their dignity and independence. Generations serves more than 3,000 clients, assisting individuals to remain independent in their homes and contribute to their communities.
Services include: Case Management to assess client service needs, develop care plans and coordinate resources; Nutrition Services to provide nutritious meals through Meals on Wheels home delivery and neighborhood meal sites; Volunteer Services including Knox County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Tax Counseling for the Elderly and AngelWorx; Aging and Disability Resource Center providing information & referral on available resources and counseling on long-term care options; Pre-Admission Screening to determine the appropriateness of nursing facility placement; Caregiver Program to provide services for family caregivers including educational programs, support group meetings and respite care; Ombudsman to investigate and resolve complaints made by/on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities; Health and Wellness programs to promote lifelong learning, positive aging and an enhanced quality of life for older adults; EngAGE community initiative to promote elder-friendly communities; and Senior Care Consultant to help individuals, families and professionals navigate the elder care network.

Logistics and Supply Chain
Tractor-Trailer Driver Training - Class A, B
This program is open to the general public and is designed to prepare students to enter an entry level driving position as a tractor-trailer truck driver. This is a six-week certificate program which is offered at the Plainfield Logistics Training and Education Center (LTEC 317-381-6029), the Indiana Center for Applied Technology (ICAT 812-888-5150) on the Vincennes campus, the Gibson County Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics (GCAT 812-888-5150) and available upon request at satellite locations in Terre Haute, IN and Jasper, IN. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the state CDL exam at a 3rd party test site.
Forklift Certification (OSHA Compliant) - Powered Industrial Truck
This certificate program uses OSHA standards as the basis for the course. Students will be given classroom instruction on the basic functions and operations of the powered forklift and hands-on training on state-of-the-art equipment. Upon completion, students will be certified to drive forklifts in warehouses and be competent in using those skills in industry employment.
Warehousing and Material Logistics
This certificate program uses the MHIA curriculum as the basis of the course. Students will be instructed on the basic functions of warehousing and material handling. Concepts include ware-housing and material logistics, movement, storage, control and protection. Upon completion, students will be able to function in warehouses and be competent in using those skills in industry employment.

Supply Chain Logistics Management - One Year Certificate
30 credit hour certificate provides background for those interested in more efficient ways to distribute and manage their products. The curriculum includes several basic subject areas such as accounting, computer software and e-commerce, operations and materials management, as well as total quality control. This provides an excellent stepping-stone to the Supply Chain Management Associate’s degree and Business Management degree programs.
Supply Chain Logistics Management - Associate’s Degree
60 credit hour program prepares students for a variety of entry-level positions in the field of Supply Chain, Logistics, and Distribution. The curriculum includes a core of business education as well as specialized training in procurement, transportation, production planning and scheduling, and materials management. The development of managerial skills useful in a variety of job situations is emphasized. In addition, courses are designed to assist employed persons in upgrading their skills.

Statewide Business and Industry Training Program
The Business and Industry Training Program’s mission is to make education and training available to all interested companies and individuals throughout the State of Indiana, and throughout North America in the case of the HTEC and ABB training centers. Curriculum is designed and tailored to meet the training needs of each specific business or industry; incorporating company culture. VU’s Business and Industry Training provides quality education and training that produces measurable improvement in job performance of workers and gives the competitive edge needed to compete in a global market. Classes can be as short as a one day workshop, up to a ten month cooperative training program. Training programs include, but are not limited to: Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Compliance Training, Industrial Maintenance, Robotics, Certified Nursing Assistant, Leadership Development, CNC Programming and Machining, CNC Train the Trainer, ABB Robotics Train the Trainer, Heavy Equipment, Tractor Trailer Driver Training, and the list goes on.
The ABB Robotics Lab is located at the Indiana Center for Applied Technology, otherwise known as the ICAT building. The ICAT facility is located on the Vincennes University Campus which offers 50,000 square feet of laboratory space, classrooms, and offices. The ABB Robotics training lab features over 20 ABB robots and related work cells, software and controllers, and will allow students to gain training in applications that include robotic welding and plasma cutting; picking, packing and palletizing; machine tending, material handling and product assembly; and advanced vision related programming.
Industrial Maintenance training through Vincennes University offers a variety of courses to meet needs in the industry. Courses are offered on a rotating basis at the Vincennes University Vincennes, Fort Branch, and Jasper Campuses. This program trains incumbent workers in areas including Basic AC/DC Electrical Systems, Electric Motor Controls, Variable Frequency Drives, Electronic Sensors, AC Electronic Drives, Mastering PLC’s Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Troubleshooting, Mechanical Drives Training, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics. A 16-week Haas Machine Maintenance course will also be introduced in September 2014 for in-depth machine repair and maintenance. Also located in the ICAT is VU’s Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) CNC Training Center, and North America’s first HTEC teacher training and certification center. This new initiative has allowed VU to become a world class training and certification center for HTEC teachers in over 1000 HTEC schools. It has also allowed VU to work with industrial partners to set the standard for Haas and Mastercam training and certification, and Renishaw probe and ballbar training for all interested parties. Overwhelming industry need and demand led to the development of the CNC Machinist NOW Training Program for civilians and veterans. The newly created 16 week program addresses the dire need for machinists and helps solve the dismal Veteran unemployment rate job void. Vincennes University created the 16 week customized training program with support from the Haas Network. The HTEC CNC lab features 13 Haas CNC machines and the training courses range from entry level to advanced training. Vincennes University in recognition of the growing need for heavy equipment operators and workers, offers training in surface and underground mining operations, heavy construction projects, stone quarries and aggregate production facilities. Vincennes University’s Gibson County Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics in Fort Branch mission is to help students and workers pursue careers through specific training programs. Current workers will benefit through programs designed to expand their skills and abilities to remain competitive in the latest technologies.
The 57,342 square-foot VU Gibson Center is designed for career fields training including: 21st century logistics and distribution, robotics, electronics, industrial maintenance, truck driver training, and mining technology. Training courses will be led by licensed, certified faculty and staff who bring significant experience within industry and as instructors.
Day and evening classes are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Offered courses are focused on the Transfer IN Core Library for high school students attending Vincennes University or other schools in Indiana. Courses typically offered include: Speech, Reading, 3 levels of English, and 4 levels of Math.
The Gibson Center is also approved to offer courses toward a degree in Supply Chain & Logistics Management. The curriculum includes a core of business education as well as specialized training in procurement, transportation, production planning and scheduling, and materials management. Initial courses include accounting, computers, transportation and management.

Veterans Upward Bound
Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Veterans Upward Bound provides free educational services to academically and financially disadvantaged military veterans with the goal of post-secondary enrollment. VUB offices in Indianapolis and Muncie, Indiana, serve 125 veterans who have been honorably or generally discharged and who have completed a minimum of 180 days of active service. The VUB service area includes Marion, Morgan, Shelby, Delaware, Madison, Blackford, Jay, Randolph, and Henry counties. Services include academic preparation and college, career and financial aid counseling.
VUB staff work closely with area schools, employment office veteran’s representatives, Veterans Administration staff, and other agencies at both the federal and state levels to ensure program participants receive coordinated academic, career, and financial aid services. Support services continue throughout the veteran’s program of study or training. VUB also offers educational experiences throughout the year, including financial aid workshops and college campus visits. The program also hosts a recognition banquet each year to highlight participant achievements.
