NURS 175 - LPN to ASN Transition


7 hrs (Sem II)
This course builds on content from previous practical nursing education in preparation for the NCLEX -RN exam and entry into RN level nursing practice. Additionally, this course builds on knowledge of applying the nursing process in the care of adults, pediatric patients experiencing selected health issues, and clients with mental health and mental illness. Pharmacological principles, concepts, and medication classifications will be covered. The laboratory setting allows the student to review fundamental nursing skills. In the clinical setting students apply the nursing process when caring for patients with mental health needs and mental illness.  Upon completion of NURS 175 with a grade of C or better, students will receive advanced placement credit in NURS 170 . 5.5 lecture hours, 1.5 laboratory hours, 3 clinical hours (16-week course).

Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into the ASN Completion Concentration for Licensed Practical Nurses; a grade of C or better in BIOL 111 /111L ; and a grade of C or better or concurrent enrollment in PSYC 201  and BIOL 112 /112L .
